Selection PREMIUM – Merlot

The fruity, spicy and full-bodied Merlot from VILLA VINÈA impresses with its deep red ruby colour. Aromas of plums and dark red berries, such as cranberries and hints of herbs on the nose. The full-bodied wine is ready to be enjoyed after just a few years of storage. The taste is strongly structured, rich and long-lasting, and its finish is soft at the same time.

About VILLA VINÈA

VILLA VINEA wines are the liquid liveliness of an extraordinary land and a unique microclimate. The gently rolling landscape on which the various grape varieties grow is nestled in the valley of the Tarnave River and is one of the oldest wine regions in Transylvania. On the south-facing slopes, the always light wind and warm summer temperatures quickly dry the morning dew, preventing the formation of rot in the most natural way. On the other hand, the cool autumn nights help the grapes to reach their aromatic maturity.

More than ten years ago, the South Tyrolean entrepreneur and wine lover Heiner Oberrauch found a truly perfect place here to realize his dream: to produce special wines with a special character. The soil samples revealed an optimal geological composition of clay, various minerals and special sediments and became the starting point for his plans. In the years that followed, 32 hectares of hilly land were planted with fine local grape varieties such as Feteasca Neagra and Feteasca Regala in combination with classics such as Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Merlot and Pinot Noir. There was also a white wine variety from Germany, the Kerner, and a red wine variety from Austria, the Zweigelt, both of which are among the landlord’s favorite wines. This combination of national and international is also reflected in the connection between two wine experts that Heiner Oberrauch was able to win over for his project: oenologist Celestino Lucin, Italy’s best cellar master in 2009, and the local cellar master Mihaly Denes, who is familiar with the area. The combination of Transylvanian wine tradition and modern technology and innovation leads to a result that is impressive: at the first official Romanian wine tasting in 2012 with a top-class international jury, VILLA VINÈA was able to win 6 of 24 gold medals. The Gewürztraminer 2011 from VILLA VINÈA was also awarded the absolute best wine. in 2009 best winemaker in Italy and local winemaker Mihaly Denes, who is familiar with the area. In 2011, the winery was completed in an architectural style based on the Transylvanian watchtowers. The characteristic tower watches over the wonderful hills with different grape varieties from all over Europe. It’s a place with an impressive atmosphere, as impressive as the wines that are created here.

Many heads and palates, but also the hands of many people of the Tarnave Valley, passionate about the wines, have created something wonderful: a place, a company, a taste. A very special drop: VILLA VINÈA.
