Crama Oprisor
Smerenie 2019
An intensely violet-red coloured, well-balanced, well-rounded and silky wine. Its aromas develop slight nuances of incense smoke harmoniously mixed with notes of overripe sour-cherries. A refined and alluring wine, excellent for immediate consumption, with real capacities of bottle maturation. An august wine, enjoying a very friendly taste character, whose flavours, rarely encountered with Romanian wines, invite to meditation. Three varieties of red wines from the OpriÅŸor Winery have contributed to this original blend: Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. Each of these wines has been matured in oak barrels.
The grapes harvested come from the plots on Cioaca Hill (Shiraz and Dornfelder) and from the Pinot Noir plot on Marsavu Hill. Season with temperate continental climate under the influence of the Danube and the Balkan chain. Hilly relief with slopes of varying exposure. Soils: reddish-brown forest (Marsavu Hill) and Psamosol on Cioaca Hill. The fruits reach full maturity, ripening to 225 – 243 grz/L, with yields ranging from 6300 kg/ha (1.38 kg/plant) to 7200 kg/ha (1.58 kg/plant).
The grapes were 100% harvested by hand, the selection was made directly in the plantation. After destemming and pressing, the Pinot Noir grapes were cold macerated for 3 days. Fermentation maceration took place for 17 days at a temperature of 23-25ºC. Vinification of each variety took place at a maximum of 1.3 bar, followed by malolactic fermentation at a temperature of 19-20ºC in stainless steel vats for Shiraz and Dornfelder and at Barique for Pinot Noir. The lots thus obtained were transferred to oak barrels for 16 months. The blending of the 3 varieties took place in February 2022 and the bottling in March 2022.
